Climax Portable MachineTools, Inc, a
strategic provider of comprehensive, on-site machining solutions, has
recently announced its expanded on-site machine tool training programme
provided by The Portable Machining Training Institute, a division of
Climax. The expansion of the training programme is designed to meet
the critical need for a greater number of skilled machinists in various
industries, including mining and heavy construction, civil engineering,
shipbuilding and power generation. The company has doubled the faculty
of the Institute and plans to enlarge its training facility this year.
The shortage of skilled machinists and engineers is one of the critical
issues that affect the productivity and profitability of various industries.
For example, according to the most
recent data provided in Skills Gap Report 2005*, 90 per cent of respondents
reported experiencing shortages of skilled production employees. Climax
has developed training programmes for all skill levels, including basic
on-site machine tool operation, advanced applications and techniques
and Train-the-Trainer programmes that allow trained individuals to pass
on their skills to other employees at the jobsite.
Two-day training sessions cover areas
such as operator safety, tool component review and usage, tool geometry
and maintenance procedures. Climax also offers five-day intensive training
courses where students learn the operation of five different on-site
machine tool systems, including boring and borewelding, valve repair
and refurbishment, milling systems, flange facing systems as well as
lathe systems.
In addition, Climax offers three-day
intensive training sessions specifically for the needs of the shipbuilding
industry. Schedules and course content can be customised depending on
customer needs, and can take place either at the Portable Machining
Training Institute in Newberg, Oregon or at the customers location.
The Training Institute has been offering top-rated courses since 2002.
Additionally, it is equipped with state-of-the art machine tools and
equipment.
The expansion of the training facility
at its worldwide headquarters in Newberg will allow Climax to offer
additional programmes devoted to hands-on activities and skills development.
Many companies such as Caterpillar, Toshiba, Peterson Tractor Company
and Northrop Grumman have participated in these training sessions.
Nick Cole, Assembly and Training Manager,
heads The Portable Machining Training Institute. All programmes are
taught by a team of dedicated instructors with specialised experience
in industries such as construction, service and civil infrastructure,
power generation and shipbuilding. Details of the training programs
are available at http://cpmt.com/exp_train. About Climax Portable Machine
