The
Government of Maharashtra and DaimlerChrysler India Private Limited
have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to set-up DaimlerChryslers
new manufacturing facility in the Chakan MIDC area in Pune. The plant
will produce the Mercedes- Benz S-Class, E-Class and C-Class for the
Indian market.
Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri
Vilasrao Deshmukh and the Minister of Industries, Shri Ashok Chavan
were present at the signing event. Representatives from DaimlerChrysler
India included Dr Thomas Weber,Member of Board of Management of DaimlerChrysler
AG responsible for Group Research and Mercedes Car Group, Dr Bharat
Balasubramanian, Vice President Group Research and Advanced Engineering
Electrical/Electronics & Information Technology, Processes, and
Dr Wilfried Aulbur Managing Director and CEO, DaimlerChrysler India.
The MoU was signed by Shri VK Jairath Secretary (Industries) on behalf
of the Government of Maharashtra and Dr Wilfried Aulbur for DaimlerChrysler
India.
DaimlerChrysler is the pioneer of the
luxury car segment in India and has already completed 11 successful
years in India. The company has well established customer relationship
and production processes and has won the Quality Awards for the Best
Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Plant outside Germany five times during
the last 11 years in India. DaimlerChrysler was also the first auto
company to complete ISO 9001: 2000 certification for its entire dealer
network in India.
The Chief Minister of Maharashtra addressed
the gathering on this occasion.DaimlerChrysler India has once
again chosen Maharashtra for its new project.We have a long-standing
relation with DaimlerChrysler India and we are happy that Mercedes-Benz
cars will continue to be produced from Maharashtra. Pune is and will
continue to remain, The Detroit of the East! he commented. Shri
Deshmukh further acknowledged the contribution made by DaimlerChrysler
and was confident that its new facility at Chakan, Pune, will continue
to inspire other players to realise the potential that Maharashtra offers
to industries. Dr Wilfried Aulbur, later speaking on the occasion commented,India
is an important market for us.

offerings. Today, we offer an impressive range of Mercedes-Benz cars
for the Indian customer. Indian operations have continued to impress

Shri Chavan, from the Government of
Maharashtra speaking on the occasion said,With a series of dynamic
and proactive steps, the state of Maharashtra is re-establishing its
premier position in the industrial development of India.The state is
investor-friendly and offers strong infrastructure and development processes.This
has propelled growth of industries especially in the automobile and
automobile components sector and with sizable investments of this nature
Maharashtra is a preferred destination for entrepreneurs and investors.
He further added,The state envisages a manifold increase in investments
in the coming years.
