Motors India has launched the much awaited Chevrolet Aveo U-VA, a spacious
five-door premium hatchback.“The Aveo U-VA is a global product
sold in Europe, North America and other parts of Asia Pacific,”said
Rajeev Chaba, President and MD, General Motors India.“It has been
re-engineered for India based on extensive testing done across the country
in order to meet the specific needs of local consumers as well as local
driving conditions.
To meet local preferences some parts
of the vehicle were redesigned, like for example the ground clearance
was increased to 188 mm, suspension reinforced, air conditioning improved
and full chrome headlamps were developed exclusively for India,”
he added. The Aveo U-VA shares a common platform with the Chevrolet
Aveo, which was introduced in India earlier this year. Both the cars
have wheelbases of 2,480 mm, which is the best in class for the Aveo
U-VA. The two cars also share some mechanical components. As a hatchback,
the Aveo U-VA provides incredible space and different exterior and interior
styling, with a sporty feel, that makes it stand out in the premium
hatchback segment.
Design
The Chevrolet Aveo U-VA’s youthful and sporty styling is courtesy
of Italdesign, the famed studio founded by Giorgetto Giugiaro in Turin,
Italy. Jewelled-element headlamps with full chrome bezels and a strong
horizontal grille with a chrome centre bar and a diamond mesh insert
dominate the front view. Its long wheelbase with short overhangs, prominent
feature lines on the sides that seem to almost cut across the vehicle
and powerful-looking wheel arches combine to create a dynamic side view.
The overall side design looks more formal
as a result of its six-window styling, which also improves all-around
visibility from inside. Its relatively low height of 1,495 mm underlines
the dynamism of this new vehicle. Circular-theme tail lamps with jewelled
elements complete the sporty look. As its celebrated designer pointed
out,“Such lights decorate a car the way a beautiful watch or a
special ring adorns a person with jewels. Front and rear lamps have
now progressed from purely functional elements into unique aesthetic
details.”This makes the Aveo U-VA the practical choice for young
people with active and vigorous lifestyles.
Interiors
The Chevrolet Aveo U-VA’s youthful design is highlighted by
the use of circular motifs that are repeated on door trims and the instrument
panel. The colour scheme is bright grey, which makes the interior look
fresh and spacious. Plus, there’s the new-age carbon fibre finish
on the power window switches and door trim.With a class-leading wheelbase
